Our Conversation Method
The principles behind our prompts, scripts and tools.
Notice the conversation context
Begin with the relationship, the available time, the privacy of the setting and the signals the other person is giving.
Ask one open question
Use one question without a hidden correct answer. Prefer an invitation that can be answered at different levels of depth. The guide to asking open-ended questions shows how to narrow a question without closing the answer.
Listen for meaning
Follow the meaning of the response. Reflect before redirecting, and let a pause remain a pause.
Share enough to stay mutual
Contribute your own honest perspective. Mutuality keeps curiosity from feeling like an interview.
Respect the other person's limit
A person can pass, ask to return later or end the subject. Connection without choice is not connection.
Use the conversation loop, not a script
The five parts can repeat in any order. Notice a change, ask one thing, listen, share enough to stay mutual and check the limit again. The loop adapts to a two-minute exchange or a planned check-in. To practice the opening without saving personal answers, use the Question Generator.
